Event title: 15th Annual Holiday Parade
Event Date/Time: 5 December 2009 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Event description: Break out the Hawaiian shirts, put on that Jimmy Buffet CD of carols and slather on the sunscreen for the annual Downtown holiday parade. The theme this year is packed with holiday fun — “Sand, Surf and Santa.”

The parade will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 on Main Street from G to N street with floats, marching bands, old cars, new cars, and, of course, that jolly old man from the North Pole.

There will be a blizzard of activity in the Downtown that day, as it kicks off with the dedication of the fountain in Bob Hart Square to Susie Rossi. She was the one who brought the parade back to life in the Downtown, and brought in a host of other activities for Downtown merchants. The dedication will be from 1 to 3 p.m.

Following the parade will be the annual tree lighting ceremony in Bob Hart Square with carolers, cookies and hot chocolate and other festivities.

There will be craft vendors, a variety of foods and other fun activities on Canal Street in front of Bob Hart Square. Call Maria Mendoza at 385-6827 for food and craft vendor applications.

Applications for floats are available online at the City’s homepage, cityofmerced.org, under Public Information. They also can be obtained by calling the California Welcome Center at 724-8104 or by dropping by the Parks and Community Services office, 690 W. 16th St. in Merced.
